Fish and Chip Shop To Be Run For Community
4th September 2007
A Nottinghamshire fish and chip shop has been saved from closure thanks to TREES.
The chips were down for the shop, in Main Street, Whaley Thorns, after almost going into administration but now TREES will run the business as a social enterprise.
A social enterprise is a business which re-invests its profits in itself and the community, and this means the people of Whaley Thorns will be supporting their community every time they buy a bag of chips.
It was officially opened on 4 September.
John Montague, chief executive of the TREES group, said: "This is an exciting step for the TREES group and for the village of Whaley Thorns. This fish and chip shop will once again be the lifeblood of the village."
TREES acts as an umbrella company bringing together construction company Newlife Regeneration Construction, Thorpete Gas Associates, Highpoint conference centre and landscaping firm Ground Control.
