Jenny Dolman-Thomas from Leicester-based TREES will be steering social enterprises and other companies of all sizes that cannot afford a human resources department through the complexities of employment legislation including the recruitment of disabled or long-term unemployed people.

The 31-year-old Human Resources and Training Manager will spearhead the new HR consultancy service for TREES, which drives employment and training creation in deprived communities across the midlands.

Its social enterprise subsidiaries include the regeneration and construction company Newlife, including its landscaping and maintenance division Ground Control and the conference and training centre Highpoint.

Jenny, who lives in Hinckley, joined TREES in 2007 with a wealth of human resources experience in-house with Airfoil Technologies International and Telewest Broadband, and in a consultancy role with Croner Consulting. She was previously Midland Regional HR Adviser for express delivery firm Initial City Link.

A Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and with a Masters degree in Psychology of Work, Jenny said there was a desperate need for ongoing human resources support for voluntary and not-for-profit organisations and other enterprises of all sizes throughout the midlands.

She has already been working with Stride, the trading arm of the Leicester-based charity SHARP, and the Apex Leicester Project, both of which provide training and employment preparation for disadvantaged people in the job market.

"Many companies receive a great deal of start up advice but are then left to fend for themselves. My aim is to provide practical and affordable HR support to any enterprise at whatever stage they are at and whenever they need it," she said.

"I particularly want to help companies fulfil their social objectives by helping them through the complex mass of rules, regulations and procedures that govern the recruitment, management, training and development of all staff, including people with disabilities or the long-term unemployed."

John Montague, Group Chief Executive of TREES, said: “Our new HR consultancy arm will fill a vital gap in the resources of many businesses that are looking to provide jobs and training to hundreds of disadvantaged workers throughout the Midlands.

"Jenny's training, skills and experience in a wide range of industries will put her in excellent stead to drive the new service."
